Overview
- Yarlington is a non-profit Community Benefit Society and a registered housing association that owns and manages over 10,000 homes across Somerset, Devon and Dorset
- The association works closely with Wessex Community Assets and their CLT project – the regional support hub for community-led housing
Wessex supports local community land trusts in selecting housing associations such as Yarlington to work in partnership to provide community-led mixed-tenure homes for local residents
- Yarlington is responsible for the development and day to day management of the completed homes, whilst the community land trusts are long-term stewards of the assets – they own the freehold
- Yarlington helps provide communities with a long term sustainable solution to their housing needs, as homes are not open to Right to Buy and community land trusts retain control of their assets
- Community members are consulted throughout the development stage
- Some schemes include local amenities like shops and post offices
- Yarlington has been working with Lyme Regis CLT in West Dorset to create 15 affordable homes in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which completed in February 2018
